Barrington 220 welcomes around 40 new teachers

A group of new Barrington Area Unit School District 220 teachers were welcomed to the Barrington community Wednesday as part of a four-day-long orientation to the district held at Barrington High School.

On the first day of the program, the new teachers heard presentations from district officials, and from many District 220 stakeholders, including the teachers' credit union, the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce, the District 220 Educational Foundation and the local teacher's union. On Thursday, they had lunch with the school board.

District spokeswoman Morgan Delack said there will be about 40 new teachers this year, although not all of them could attend the orientation. While that number still is subject to change, there will likely still be fewer new teachers this year than in the 2015-2016 school year. Last year, Linda Klobucher, the district's assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, said there were about 65 new teachers because of a higher number of retirements.
