McHenry County State's Attorney's second-in-command resigns

First assistant state's attorney Donna Kelly is resigning from her position after serving McHenry County for nearly a decade, State's Attorney Lou Bianchi announced Tuesday.

Kelly, who began as an assistant state's attorney in August 2005, is leaving to pursue another opportunity, according to a news release from the state's attorney's office. Her resignation is effective Thursday.

Before being promoted to second-in-command in February 2015, Kelly also worked in the office as a supervising assistant state's attorney and chief of the civil division. From fall 2009 to summer 2011, she took a break from serving the county to join a private practice, according to the news release.

"Donna's resignation is a significant loss for the citizens of McHenry County that she served so well," Bianchi said, noting her legal skills, professionalism and ethics will be missed in the office.

Kelly's replacement is expected to be announced next week.
