Schaumburg man dies after motorcycle crash near Sugar Grove

A Schaumburg man was killed in a motorcycle crash near Sugar Grove on Sunday, police said.

The crash happened about 6:40 p.m. on Jericho Road near the intersection of McCannon Road in an unincorporated area near Sugar Grove Township, Kane County sheriff's officials said.

A 2010 Dodge Charger traveling east on Jericho Road slowed to turn north onto McCannon Road. A vehicle behind it also slowed. A 2010 Honda motorcycle traveling east on Jericho Road behind the other vehicles then drove into the oncoming lane of traffic and tried to pass the other vehicles, police said.

When the Charger attempted to turn, the motorcycle hit the Charger on the rear driver's-side door.

Pawel Czop, 31, was thrown from the motorcycle. He was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the Charger, a 16-year-old Sandwich resident, and her father were taken to Copley Hospital in Aurora and treated for minor injuries.

The vehicle that stopped behind the Charger was not involved in the crash. Jericho Road was closed for about four hours while officials investigated.
