We must keep guns away from mentally ill

A number of months ago, a young white man shot and killed nine innocent black people in a church. He stated his purpose was to "kill black people" in order to start a race war. Last week a young black person shot and killed five white police officers and wounded eight more. His stated purpose was to kill white people and especially "white police officers."

The people shot and killed in all these cases were innocent people.

Where do these racist shooters come from? Certainly, these two shooters do not represent the vast majority of people in America of all races. What is also common to both shooters is that they were able to carry out their evil deeds with guns. Apparently, both shooters obtained their weapons of destruction legally.

We have to find a way to prevent mentally ill individuals such as the shooters in Charleston and Dallas from obtaining guns to carry out their screwball ideas.

A conversation should be started about preventing gun purchases by individuals who exhibit extreme ideas such as racial hatred.
