Palatine Park District offers free disc golf open house

Palatine Park District presents a free Disc Golf Open House at its 18-hole disc golf course from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6. The disc golf course is at Margreth Riemer Reservoir, at the corner of Quentin and Palatine Roads; enter from Wood Street.

The open house will include a clinic from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. that will be targeted to beginner players covering disc golf rules and definitions, disc selection, technique and practice tips. Instructing the free clinic is disc golfer Josh Graham.

In July, Graham competed in the Professional Disc Golf Association Amateur World Championships in Madison, Wisconsin. In a field of 216 competitors, Graham finished in 23rd place. Other notable tournament finishes include: 2016 Mad City Open, Madison, Wisconsin, 11th place Men's Advanced; 2016 Oswego Open, Oswego, second place, Men's Advanced; and 2015 Saukville Open, Saukville, Wisconsin, first place Men's Advanced.

The clinic will be followed by several ring of fire contest rounds at 11:15 a.m. and free raffles at 11:45 a.m., ending with an exhibition round of disc golf featuring area professional disc golfers. Attendees will be allowed to join the disc golf gallery and follow along with the pros as they play the course.

Play it Again Sports-Palatine will be recognized at the Open House for their 2016 presenting sponsorship of the Riemer Disc Golf Course that has supported the purchase of new signs for the course.
