Match at new Vikings stadium may set Minnesota soccer record

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - An international soccer match next week at the Minnesota Vikings' new stadium could set a soccer attendance record in Minnesota.

More than 55,000 tickets already have been sold for the match, the first event at U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis.

Chelsea will host A.C. Milan as part of the International Champions Cup on Wednesday, Aug. 3. Promoters say the match is on pace to break the all-time attendance record for soccer in Minnesota. That was set in 1978 when 46,370 fans filled the old Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington to watch the Minnesota Kicks play the New York Cosmos.

U.S. Bank Stadium officially opened last Friday. Limited seats still remain for the soccer match.
