New body armor for Libertyville police

Libertyville police will receive new body armor after approval Tuesday by the village board. The current warranty standard for the body armor is five years. In Libertyville's current budget year, 21 sets of expired body armor will need to be replaced and others will need to be added for new hires. According to Police Chief Clint Herdegen said four bids were received. The bid notices included specific requirements for threat protection level, design and comfort of fit. The board approved the purchase of up to 30 sets of replacement/new vests and external uniform carriers in an amount not to exceed $22,000. Half the cost will be reimbursed through a federal grant.
