Voters' will thwarted by map ruling

Once again in Illinois the will of the people has been prevented from voting this November on the Independent Map Amendment. A Cook County judge ruled that the bi-partisan petition signed by 564,000 Illinois voters to have a vote on a fair process of drawing maps that is transparent, impartial and fair is unconstitutional.

It is unfortunate that the Cook County Circuit Court sided with the politicians that want to manipulate the system and deny us our democratic rights. Hopefully the Illinois Supreme Court will overrule the lower court and allow the citizens of Illinois an up or down vote on the Independent Map Amendment this November. The current process of re-districting whereby politicians in office manipulate the boundaries to prevent challenges to their fiefdoms must come to an end.
