Preview Harper's Lifelong Learning Institute next Wednesday

Learn more about the astonishing history of Ellis Island in "The Golden Door." Reintroduce yourself to classic hosts Steve, Johnny, Jay and David in the four-course series "Late Night." Delve into the technological and cultural impact of beverages in "Six Drinks That Shaped History." Or get a guide to the spirit realm with "Supernatural Series." Now in its 14th year, the popular Harper College Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) boasts more than 100 of these courses, providing enriching and entertaining continuing education opportunities to adults ages 55 and older.

Harper will offer a free sampling during its Lifelong Learning Institute program preview from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the Wojcik Conference Center on the College's main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road, Palatine. Attendees can preview classes, hear instructor presentations, visit partner tables and enjoy a continental breakfast.

Courses explore the arts, books, cooking, history, music, science, travel and more. The upcoming lineup also includes a collaboration with Roosevelt University's Institute for Continued Learning to put on "World War II in Europe," a series of lectures that take place Aug. 9 to 11, at Harper. Most other classes are one or two sessions and start in late August. LLI's innovative classes appeal to every interest, and no background, homework or grades are necessary. They take place at the College and eight partner sites.
