Fight over drugs leads to Zion stabbing, police say

An argument over drugs led to a fatal stabbing at a Zion gas station on Monday night, police said Tuesday.

Bernardino Giustino, 21, of Zion, was charged Tuesday afternoon with first degree murder in the stabbing death of 20-year-old Nathaniel Lang, also of Zion. Giustino's bond was set at $2 million.

Police said Giustino and the victim knew each other and had been arguing over drugs at the Mobil gas station on the 2500 block of Sheridan Road. Giustino left, but returned later with a knife and confronted Lang before stabbing him, police said in a news release.

Police were dispatched to the scene at 6:17 p.m. after receiving a 911 call claiming a person was shot outside the gas station. Police said the victim was stabbed in the chest, not shot.

Officers found the man unconscious and not breathing. The victim was taken to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan, where he was pronounced dead.

The Zion Police Department and Lake County Major Crimes Task Force oversaw the investigation that led to the charges against Giustino.
