Suspect in Aurora KFC robbery facing more charges after jail fight

A man accused of being the getaway driver in a 2014 botched robbery of an Aurora KFC in which three people were shot now faces additional felony charges after fighting with another inmate at the Kane County jail, officials said.

Joshua O. Scott, 28, of Aurora was charged with aggravated battery in a public place and battery after the July 18 fight at the jail, where he has been held on $1.53 million bail since his arrest shortly after the robbery, according to court records and the sheriff's office.

Kane County Sheriff's Department Lt. Pat Gengler said guards responded at about 4 p.m. to a fight between Scott and another inmate.

"When officers tried to break up the fight, he actively resisted them," Gengler said. "It is unknown why they got into the altercation. It does not appear that any injuries were severe."

If he is convicted of the new felony charges, Scott faces a sentence of probation to five years in prison.

Scott is next due in court Aug. 3 to face charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and armed robbery stemming from a September 2014 robbery at a KFC on the 1300 block of East New York Street.

Two other Aurora men - Claude Jackson, 47, and Chase N. West, 21, - also are charged in the robbery, in which three employees were shot because they could not open the safe.

According to police, West and Jackson - who was armed with a rifle - entered the restaurant at about 8:25 p.m. Sept. 4, 2014, and announced a robbery and ordered three male employees to the front of the store. After Jackson learned none of the three could open the safe, he shot each employee once, police said.

A fourth employee, a 36-year-old woman, hid in a closet and was not injured before West and Jackson left the scene in a Cadillac Escalade driven by Scott, authorities said.

Jackson is being held on $2.05 million bail and is due in court Aug. 4; West is being held on $1.5 million bail and is due in court Aug. 5.
