Messages painted on paths might help prevent bike/walker crashes

Thank you for your most recent reminder about safety on our park pathways ("Our View" 7/9/2016).

FYI, the Mount Prospect Park District has recently stenciled cautionary messages on the pathways at Melas and Clearwater parks. The messages read "Wheeled traffic must yield right of way to pedestrians."

I asked Mr. Jim Jarog, director of parks and planning, about the messages and he said that they are derived from the Illinois Bicycle Rules of the Road. He also said that they intend to post the message at all Mount Prospect park paths.

This seems like a good start to resolving a widespread park pathway safety issue - if the bikers adhere to the message.
