Ill. Hwy. 83 reopens in Elk Grove Village after wires repaired

Downed electrical wires blocked Ill. Hwy. 83 at Devon Avenue in Elk Grove Village for about seven hours Saturday.

The wires came down about 6:30 a.m., and repairs were completed about 1:30 p.m., officials said.

ComEd had more than a half-dozen repair trucks on the scene and Elk Grove Village police stationed several squads in the area to reroute traffic. Devon Avenue remained open.

ComEd spokesman John Schoen said crews initially thought there might have been an accident, but that was not the case. He said it's still not clear what caused the wires to fall.
