Help Sons of the American Legion Squadron 36 honor first responders

On Memorial Day weekend, Sons of American Legion Squadron 36, assisted by several dozen volunteers, placed over 4,000 flags at the grave sites of many veterans interred at All Saints Cemetery, in Des Plaines, paying homage to those who served in the armed forces during their lives.

Now the group wants to elaborate on this program.

On Patriot's Day, Sept. 11, the Sons of American Legion Squadron 36 wants to recognize those first responders in the police and fire departments who are no longer with us, but the group needs your help.

If you have a family member or friend who spent all, or part of his or her life as a member of the police or fire department, and would like that service recognized, contact Des Plaines American Legion Post 36 at (847) 824-3236, or by email at americanlegion36@gmail.com, and let them know that persons name and the location of the gravesite at All Saints Cemetery. The Sons of American Legion Squadron 36 will take pride in putting an American flag at their headstone on Patriots Day.

If you have a family member or friend interred at another location, and would like a flag for that purpose, stop by American Legion Post 36, located just east of Lee St. on Oakwood Ave., in Des Plaines.
