Batavia High dance team off to a great start for the 2016-17 season

The Batavia High School dance team kicked off its 2016-17 season with a vengeance this week at an Elite UDA Dance Camp in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The team brought both its varsity and junior varsity teams to the camp, which took place on July 18-20. The varsity team, which is coached by Angela Fuqua, brought a jazz routine performed to the song "Rumor Has It." This routine was awarded a Superior trophy, the highest award available. In addition, the varsity team qualified for nationals, which will be held in Orlando, Florida in early 2017, and became eligible to perform at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, which is usually held on New Year's Day.

Eight of the varsity team's seniors were awarded All American medals and each varsity team member earned blue ribbons for their individual routines. The junior varsity team, which is coached by Susan Fricke, had a similarly spectacular showing. The JV team received a third-place trophy for its lyrical routine and a Superior trophy for its individual routine.

Additionally, three of the junior varsity members were awarded All American medals.

Although the Bulldogs have been busy all summer training and preparing their routines for camp, they did find time to participate in Relay For Life at the Kane County Cougars ballpark in June and collect a carload of food donations for the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry during a Tag Day event.
