ESO violinist to perform in Mozart concert series

Carol Dylan, a 15-year member of the first violin section of Elgin Symphony Orchestra, will perform in the Midwest Mozart Festival concert series at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 31, at the Sanfilippo Estate, Barrington Hills, and at 3 p.m. Sundays, Aug. 7, and 14, at the Woodstock Opera House.

Dylan also is a founding board member of the Midwest Mozart Festival, which is comprised of musicians that have been presenting the works of Mozart for many years at the Woodstock Opera House, and the August concerts will mark 30 years of performances of Mozart's magnificent music at the historic venue.

Tickets for the July 31 concert are $55 and may be purchased at sanfilippofoundation.org. Tickets for the August concerts are $25-$40, $7 for students with an ID. The concert on July 31 at the Sanfilippo Estate features Contredances, K. 609, Serenade #11, K. 375, Divertimento, K. 136, and Divertimento for two horns and strings, "Musical Joke" K. 522.

On Aug. 7, the ensemble will perform the Overture to Titus, Symphony No. 1 in E flat Major, K. 16, Violin Concerto No. 4 in D Major, K. 218 with soloist Kevin Case, violin, and Symphony No. 25 in g minor, K. 183. The final concert of the series on August 14 features three Mozart arias with soprano Susan Nelson, and Symphony No. 39 in E flat Major, K. 543.

Dylan has been playing violin since she was 4 years old and grew up in a musical household. Her father is Lee Burswold, the composer and pianist, and her mother, Barbara, was a cellist with the Houston Symphony.

Dylan attended North Park University in Chicago, where her father was a music professor, and eventually ended up teaching at North Park herself for 20 years. Dylan's graduate degree is from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

In addition to teaching at Elgin Community College, she also enjoys playing chamber music, is first violinist of the ESO's String Quartet, ESQ, and is the Assistant Concertmaster of the Chicago Sinfonietta.

Midwest Mozart Festival Inc. is a nonprofit organization with world class musicians who have presented concerts at the historic opera house in Woodstock for the past 29 years. This year will mark the gala's 30th anniversary of the works of Mozart being performed in this venue.
