Elk Grove woman receives probation for attempted robbery

An Elk Grove Village woman who prosecutors said created a fictional online profile to lure single men to rob them pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and battery.

Karena Villegas, 19, was sentenced to 24 months' probation and ordered to pay $500 in restitution. She was also fined $374.

Villegas arranged to meet a man she met online for "casual or intimate contact" last November in a Mount Prospect parking lot. Villegas and a male accomplice confronted the victim, punched him and ordered him to surrender his money, prosecutors said.

At the time of Villegas' bond hearing, accomplice was still at large. Court records do not show a second defendant.
