Teen driver injured, cited in Schaumburg crash

A 19-year-old Schaumburg man suffered reportedly minor injuries early Tuesday when a car he was driving collided with the rear of a second vehicle on westbound Higgins Road at Route 53 in Schaumburg, Cook County Sheriff's police said.

According to police, the driver's Cadillac DTS struck a 1999 Toyota Camry from behind near the Route 53 overpass, pushing the Toyota into a stoplight post.

The 19-year-old driver was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village by the Schaumburg Fire Department for treatment, sheriff's police said. He also was ticketed for driving on a suspended license and for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, officials said.

The driver of the Toyota Camry, a 32-year-old Mount Prospect woman, declined medical assistance, according to the sheriff's department.

Higgins Road was closed temporarily while authorities investigated the crash and cleared the scene.
