Naperville crash victim identified
The DuPage County coroner's office has identified the victim in a fatal single-vehicle crash July 11 in Naperville as Abel Clay, 33, of Hammond, Indiana.
The fiery crash took place at 1:43 a.m. when a 2015 Dodge ProMaster van traveling south on Washington Street between Bauer Road and 14th Street struck a tree and burst into flames, authorities said.
Firefighters put out the flames and found Clay inside the vehicle, “burned beyond recognition,” the coroner's office said.
Clay was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:18 a.m. Toxicology and autopsy results are pending.
