Man dies after driving under semitrailer truck in Wadsworth

A two-vehicle crash in Wadsworth Monday left a 54-year-old man from Hales Corners, Wisconsin, dead and a 50-year-old man from Mundelein uninjured, the Lake County sheriff's office said in a news release Tuesday.

Lake County sheriff's deputies responded to a call at Russell Road and I-94 for a crash with serious injuries at 1:38 p.m.

The Wisconsin man was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu east on I-94, and exited the interstate using the off-ramp for Russell Road. The driver of the Malibu failed to yield to a 2005 Kenworth semitrailer truck driven by the Mundelein man, and drove partially under the truck's trailer, according to police.

The Malibu sustained significant damage, and the driver was taken to Saint Catherine's Medical Center in Kenosha with critical injuries.

He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, according to the news release. The truck driver was not injured.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit is investigating the crash.
