A final border crossing

We recently went to Canada, crossing the border at Port Huron/Sarnia. It was our sixth trip and we answered all the routine questions. We were told to drive to the office. Our car was searched inside and outside, and we were told to go in the office. We were forced to wait over two hours. When we asked why, we were told they were doing an identity check. Strangely, they had none of our identification. We are both 70 years old. That was our last trip to Canada.
