Free Monthly Homebuyer, Home Maintenance Workshops Offered by NWHP

North West Housing Partnership (NWHP), a Northwest suburban based nonprofit, offers monthly workshops that provide education and resources to help people purchase their first home. Current homeowners can also attend additional workshops in July and August that provide resources and information about home maintenance, as well as home insurance, refinancing and more.

The "How to Maintain Your Home" workshops will be held two different times over the next month. The first will be on Friday, July 22, and the second on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016. Both run from 5 until 8 p.m.

Among the topics covered will be information about seasonal home maintenance, what to expect when hiring a contractor, refinancing, how to create a budget, home insurance options and what steps to take when selling a home.

The workshops are free to attend and those interested are encouraged to invite friends and family who they believe would benefit from the educational resources. Complimentary hors d'oeuvres and snacks will be provided.

"First-Time Homebuyer Workshops" are held on a monthly basis by NWHP, and provide attendees with a variety of resources and information on what to consider when purchasing a home.

These workshops are also free, and held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Featured information includes how to obtain a mortgage and negotiate a contract, as well as home inspection and homeowner insurance options among other topics.

Upcoming homebuyer workshop dates are: July 23, Aug. 20, Sept. 17, Oct. 15, Nov. 19 and Dec. 17.

The experienced staff at NWHP can also meet with people on an individual basis to help them through the process of purchasing a home. NWHP is an approved HUD Housing Counseling Agency.

A certificate is given upon completion of the workshop, which is required by select mortgage lenders in order to qualify for down payment and/or closing cost assistance.

A continental breakfast and lunch are provided at no charge for workshop attendees, who are also encouraged to bring family and friends interested in learning more about purchasing their first home.

"We are pleased to be able to offer both of these valuable education opportunities for individuals whose goal is to own a home, and for people who need resources to help them maintain, and stay in their home," said Robyn Sandys, the NWHP executive director.

All workshops are held NWHP, 1701 E. Woodfield Road, Suite 312 in Schaumburg, and preregistration is required. Individuals can register by calling (847) 969-0561, or by visiting the website at www.NWHP.net.
