Lake County teens win National Merit scholarships

More than 800 winners of college- and university-sponsored National Merit Scholarships from across the U.S. were named on Monday. These 800 are in addition to the 3,000 other college-sponsored awards that were announced in June.

Each sponsor college selects their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program who will attend their institution. College-sponsored awards provide $500 to $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.

Here are the Lake County winners.

Shin Young G. Yu: of Buffalo Grove and Adlai E. Stevenson High School. Probable career field: Medicine. Won a National Merit Northwestern University Scholarship.

Dana M. Suri: of Deerfield and Deerfield High School. Probable career field: Computer Science. Won a National Merit Santa Clara University Scholarship.

Jinny Hong: of Lake Forest and Lake Forest Academy. Probable career field: Biochemistry. Won a National Merit Case Western Reserve University Scholarship.

Alexandr Sein: of Prairie View and Adlai E. Stevenson High School. Probable career field: Aerospace Engineering. Won a National Merit Texas A&M University Scholarship.

Aarohi A. Mahableshwarkar: of Riverwoods and Deerfield High School. Probable career field: Medicine. Won a National Merit University of Southern California Scholarship.
