Palatine council won't allow alcohol sales at gas stations

The Palatine village council decided last week to maintain its ban on the sale of beer and wine at gas stations.

Guy Morgano, a vice president of The Pride Stores gas station company planning a station at the intersection of Algonquin and Roselle roads, said other towns have decided to change their ordinances.

"When I started 20 years ago, gas station and beer and wine sales were taboo," Morgano said in front of the council. "Six years ago we had three liquor licenses, now we have 10."

But the council decided not to change their policy. One reason cited by village staff is they believe that gas stations are the most prone to underage people trying to purchase alcohol.

The Pride gas station will be located at 1776 S. Roselle Road.
