Sabres sign first-round pick Alexander Nylander

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The Buffalo Sabres have signed first-round pick Alexander Nylander.

Nylander, the No. 8 overall pick last month, signed a three-year, entry-level deal Friday.

The 18-year-old Nylander is the son of former NHL player Michael Nylander. His older brother, William, plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

A 6-foot-1 forward, Nylander led Sweden's 2016 world junior championship team with nine points and earned Ontario Hockey League Rookie of the Year honors playing for the Mississauga Steelhead last season.

The Sabres also announced Friday the additions of assistant coach Tom Ward and video coach Adam Nightingale.
