Chicago Sky has some fun in win over Wings

It has been awhile since there has been laughter in the Chicago Sky huddle.

Then again, it has been awhile since the Sky has had a double-digit lead late in a game.

But the Sky had both Friday night at the Allstate Arena en route to an 84-77 victory over the Dallas Wings.

The Sky (9-12) needed that kind of victory, and actually any kind of victory with losses in eight of its previous 11 games.

"That's just as important (as a win)," Sky forward Elena Delle Donne said of being able to enjoy a win. "It all goes into feeling comfortable and confident and having a lot of energy. We were really going off of one another. I feel like so many people came in and stepped up at huge times."

All 10 Sky players who entered the game scored, led by Delle Donne with a game-high 24 points. Point guard Jamierra Faulkner added 13 points and 6 assists and reserved guard Allie Quigley chipped in with 10 points.

The Sky, up by as many as 13 points, shot 47 percent from the field while Dallas hit just 38 percent of its shots.

"Our team really locked in defensively," Sky coach Pokey Chatman said. "I think our players really stuck to the game plan and at this point, we were just trying to get a win."

Dallas put four players in double figures, led by forward Plenette Pierson and her 20 points. Guard Odyssey Sims had 14 points to go along with 6 assists.

Former Notre Dame guard Skylar Diggins was held to just 3 points on 1-of-9 shooting in 25 minutes.

"That starts with players like (defensive stopper) Tamera Young," Chatman said of the defense on Diggins, who is averaging about 12 points for the Wings. "It starts with our players making them uncomfortable. We just wanted to close the space so they weren't getting open looks. I think we did a good job of that."
