Des Plaines man tees up proposal on 18th green

When Mary Adams and boyfriend Patrick McGeean finished a round of 18 on July 2 at the Park Ridge Country Club, he had a big question for her.

But he didn't have to ask verbally.

McGeean, of Des Plaines, had arranged for golf balls to be placed on the edge of the 18th green spelling out "Will You Marry Me?"

She said yes.

The couple regularly golf together since they met 18 months ago on the Tinder dating app.

"When they started dating, Mary took up golf and now regularly breaks 100, something Patrick feels is great for a beginner," said his uncle Dick Barton, a longtime local public relations professional.

McGeean is operations manager of Bil-Mac Express, an Arlington Heights trucking company started by his grandfather. Adams, of Downers Grove, is a special-education teacher.

A date for the wedding is pending.
