Bulls add another point guard

It takes more than one point guard to replace Derrick Rose.

Maybe that's the Bulls' philosophy or maybe they're setting themselves up for more moves this summer. They signed free agent point guard Isaiah Canaan on Tuesday, according to his agency, Priority Sports. It was reported as a two-year deal worth $2.2 million with a team option after the first season.

As a part-time starter for Philadelphia last season, the 6-foot Canaan averaged 11.0 points and 1.8 assists. He's been a high-volume 3-point shooter. In the 99 games he played for the 76ers over the past two season, he averaged 6.5 attempts from 3-point land and shot 36.3 percent in those games.

A native of Biloxi, Mississippi, Canaan played in college at Murray State, was drafted in the second round in 2013 by Houston and played in 47 games for the Rockets before being traded to Philadelphia on Feb. 19, 2015. His season ended in early April this spring due to a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

The addition of Canaan gives the Bulls four point guards under contract - presumed starter Rajon Rondo, second-year guard Jerian Grant and third-year guard Spencer Dinwiddie. It's possible the Bulls could have more moves in mind for this summer, including a trade.

The Bulls have yet to formally announce the free-agent signing of former Miami star Dwyane Wade, but Wade sent pictures of himself at the Advocate Center the past two days, so a change of heart doesn't appear to be in the works,

Summer League team goes 3-0:

The Bulls improved to 3-0 in the Las Vegas summer league by edging San Antonio 79-76 on Tuesday. Bobby Portis led the Bulls with 18 points, followed by rookie Denzel Valentine with 15, Dinwiddie with 13 and Grant with 10.

Portis' putback slam of a Dinwiddie miss put the Bulls up 76-73 with two minutes left and the Bulls hit enough free throws to hang on. The Bulls will be one of the higher seeds and will most likely get a bye in the Las Vegas playoff tournament, which begins Wednesday.
