Coroner: Force of crash killed Lake in the Hills man

A 68-year-old Lake in the Hills man died of his injuries from a crash Sunday night after his vehicle collided with a utility pole near unincorporated Grafton Township, authorities said.

Syed A. Quader died from blunt force trauma to the head and chest, according to the McHenry County coroner's office.

About 5:27 p.m., Quader was in a 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette van traveling west along Ackman Road west of Huntley Road when the van left the north side of the roadway and collided with a utility pole and multiple trees for unknown reasons, authorities said.

Crystal Lake firefighters took Quader to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock where he was pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m. He was the only occupant of the van at the time of the crash and had been wearing his seat belt. No air bags deployed during the crash, authorities said.

McHenry County sheriff's deputies suspect a medical episode might have contributed to the cause of the crash. Alcohol has been eliminated as a potential cause.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Traffic Crash Investigations Unit and the McHenry County coroner's office continue to investigate.
