Teens can join 'Extreme Expeditions' with McHenry County Conservation District

Teens, age 12 to 16, are invited to challenge themselves with an "Extreme Expeditions - A Hike/Bike/Paddle" adventure from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, at the Hickory Grove Highlands Conservation Area, 500 Hickory Nut Grove Lane, Cary.

Discover the nature of McHenry County by foot, canoe and bike. Hike the trails of Hickory Grove Conservation Area to Hickory Grove Riverfront exploring nature and playing games along the way. Take a canoe trip on the scenic Fox River, paddling up to 5 miles, discovering the wildlife that lives in and around the stream. Upon our arrival back to land take a break and enjoy lunch. Hike back up through the Hickory Grove Highlands for the final leg of our action-packed day, a leisurely bike ride from Hickory Grove to Fel-Pro RRR West on the Cary bike path. The day concludes at Fel-Pro RRR West in Cary.

Bike rental is available for an additional $25 and must be requested and paid for by Tuesday, July 12.

Bikes are locked indoors while not in use during the program. Canoeing equipment and lunch are provided.

Registration and fee is required by July 12: $20 for county resident, $45 with bike rental; $25 for nonresident, $50 with bike rental.

Register online at www.MCCDistrict.org, by mail and walk-in at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road in Crystal Lake, or drop-off only at Lost Valley Visitor Center, Route 31 and Harts Road in Ringwood.
