One injured in 3-vehicle crash in East Dundee

One person was injured Thursday in a three-vehicle crash in East Dundee, authorities said.

About 3:40 p.m., a vehicle was stopped at a stop sign on Penny Road at Route 68 when it was rear-ended by second vehicle and pushed into the intersection, Police Chief Terry Mee said.

At that point, a third vehicle driving on Route 68 hit the first vehicle, causing it to roll over onto its side, he said.

One driver was taken to the hospital with "minor arm lacerations," Mee said, and the other two drivers were checked at the scene. There were no passengers in any of the vehicles.

Additionally, a minor fire started in the car that had rolled over, he said, but it was extinguished by fire crews.

Route 68 was closed immediately following the accident but has since been reopened.

The driver of the vehicle that rear-ended the first vehicle was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, Mee said. Additional information was not immediately available.
