Bartlett Library celebrates the Fourth of July with program

To kick-off the Fourth of July weekend, the Bartlett Library hosted the program "Fabulous 4th" on Friday, July 1.

The program started out with a short video entitled "John, Paul, George & Ben," which was about the young boys who would come to be the founding fathers.

After the video finished, it was time for a couple stories. The first was "Apple Pie 4th of July" by Janet Wong, followed by "Miss Mary Mack" adapted by Mary Ann Hoberman.

The children were then broken up into two groups. One group participated in a scavenger hunt and the other put together a big puzzle of the USA. After a bit, the groups switched so that all the children were able to do both activities.

Then to wrap up the program, children made a sparkler made out of tin foil, cellophane and jumbo straws. They could take them home to play with them to their hearts' content without worrying about getting burned.

Stefanie Querry and her kids Jack and Sammi were at the program. Querry stated that her children love the library; they go at least once a week, if not more.

She then said that her son Jack was so excited to come to the "Fabulous 4th" program. "[Jack] woke up and the first thing he said was that he was making a firework at the library," Querry said. "He even went to the pantry and pulled out our straws to show me what he would be making it out of today."

An upcoming Youth Services program is "Battle Bunny Book Mash-Up" on Thursday, July 7 at 10 a.m. Grades 4-5 Do you enjoy writing and illustrating your own stories? Have you ever wanted to draw in a book? Now you can do both. You will create your own literary mash-ups based on Jon Scieszka and Mac Barnett's Battle Bunny.
