Beach Park man shot in Evanston

A 25-year-old Beach Park suffered multiple gunshot wounds early Sunday in the parking lot of an Evanston restaurant, police say.

According to police, officers responded about 5:05 a.m. to reports of a shooting outside the restaurant on the 100 block of Asbury Avenue. When they arrived, officers learned the victim had walked into the emergency room at Presence St. Francis Hospital for treatment of nonlife-threatening wounds to his torso, arm and leg, police said.

Police said the shooting occurred when a man walked up to the victim in the parking lot and asked him about his gang affiliation. When the victim denied being in a gang, the man pulled out a handgun and shot him three times before fleeing in a gray vehicle.

The shooter is described as a black man in his 20s, with a medium build and wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information is asked to call Evanston police detectives at (847) 866-5040 or utilize Text-A-Tip by texting CRIMES (274637) and entering EPDTIP in the message line followed by the tip.
