Couple charged with robbing a man at a Rolling Meadows motel

A Palatine woman and a Des Plaines man have been charged with robbing a man they met through an online classifieds site.

Deborah Ayorinde, 20, and Romaine Bennett, 23, were ordered held Tuesday on $75,000 bail and $60,000 bail respectively.

The man answered an online classifieds advertisement for a massage and arranged to meet the woman, whom prosecutors say is Ayorinde, late Monday morning at a Rolling Meadows motel, said Cook County assistant state's attorney Alyssa Grissom.

Ayorinde asked the man if he was a police officer, when he replied “no” she asked if he wanted her to perform a sex act on him, Grissom said. The man said no and returned to his car while Ayorinde demanded he pay her $200, Grissom said.

According to Grissom, Ayorinde said, “you're not leaving. You can run me over,” as she stood at the back of his car. When the man attempted to enter the car, Ayorinde grabbed the driver's side door and knocked the keys out of his hand, Grissom said.

A struggle over the money ensued, during which the man managed to call 911, Grissom said. Meanwhile Bennett entered the car's back seat and grabbed the man's shirt while Ayorinde took the $200, Grissom said. The couple fled the scene but were stopped by police, Grissom said.

If convicted, Ayorinde and Bennett face up to seven years in prison. They next appear in court on July 18.
