Geneva man charged with firebombing house, truck in April

A Geneva man has been charged with aggravated arson, accused of firebombing a house and pickup truck in two different locations one night in April.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Dominic M. Castelvecchi, 18, of the 600 block of Cheever Avenue. Geneva police say he knows of the warrant and is arranging to turn himself in, but he had not been arrested as of early Friday evening.

Bail is set at $50,000, so when he is arrested, he will have to post $5,000 to be released.

According to Geneva police, Castelvecchi and two underage people were drinking alcohol by the Fox River on April 23, when they decided to make Molotov cocktails.

They drove to Castelvecchi's house, made one, then then threw it at a pickup truck in the driveway of a house on the 100 block of Abbey Lane, destroying the truck.

They then returned to Castelvecchi's house, made another Molotov cocktail, and threw it at a house on the 900 block of Meadows Road, damaging a patio.

The aggravated arson charge comes because Castelvecchi should have reasonably known or suspected that there were people in the Meadows Road house, according to the charge.

Aggravated arson is a Class X felony, punishable by six to 30 years in prison.

Castelvecchi is also charged with residential arson, two counts of possession of explosives or incendiary devices, arson and two counts of criminal damage to property.

Castelvecchi is currently in a pretrial diversion program in Kane County court, related to a 2015 arrest on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The two others are also being charged with crimes, but police are not releasing information about them, because they are juveniles.
