River Run in neighborhood profile

One of Naperville's premier subdivisions, River Run, offers homebuyers a clubhouse community with pool and tennis courts, beautiful custom homes on large lots and excellent schools.

These amenities drew Mark and Terri Niedershulte to River Run almost 20 years ago when they were looking for a larger home and yard and a subdivision with facilities where their three boys could play sports and participate in various activities.

"We built a five-bedroom home with an all-brick exterior for low maintenance and worked hard to make it a good family home. We have a finished basement with entertainment for the boys, including pool and Ping-Pong tables," Mark Niedershulte said.

"We also have a large yard, which is nice for outside activities, and when the kids were young, we could keep an eye on them. They played a lot of touch football in the yard, and it worked out really well for the boys and all their extended friends. They also spent a lot of time at the tennis courts."

The family enjoys living on a cul-de-sac with little traffic and more of a pedestrian environment where you get to know your neighbors, Niedershulte said.

"Many people like it here so much they stay, and there is little movement unless they're retiring. People really like the stability and the great environment for families. It's a great place to raise kids."

Situated at 104th Street west of Plainfield-Naperville Road in Will County, River Run features large custom homes typically with 3,000 to almost 6,000 square feet, four to five bedrooms, 2½ to five baths and a three-car garage.

Homes were built by a variety of high-end custom builders and feature a diversity of architectural styles, which contributes to the beauty of the neighborhood.

Many homes offer luxury features such as all custom cabinetry, top-of-the-line appliances, hardwood flooring, volume ceilings, columns and other architectural features, and finished basements. Luxury extends to the outdoors where you'll see brick paver patios, large decks and fire pits. All homes have mature trees and beautiful professional landscaping.

"The big attraction to the subdivision is that it has one of the nicest clubhouses in south Naperville with a beautiful pool and tennis courts and state-of-the-art fitness center," said Jeff Stainer, broker associate with RE/MAX Action in Lisle.

During the summer, the neighborhood's Bistro Cafe serves beverages, snacks and ice cream treats, and on Friday and Saturday nights, it fires up the grill for brats, burgers, ribs and kebabs. The homeowners' association also offers a full range of activities and holiday events where residents can socialize and meet new neighbors.

"It's also a really nice setting where residents don't see the house directly behind them because of the large homesites and trees, and some homes back up to the creek that runs through the subdivision," Stainer said.

For more fun, the River Run neighborhood park offers a playground, picnic area, benches and walking path. Residents are also near a Will County forest preserve, Naperbrook Golf Course and Naperville Polo Club.

With the southwest Naperville population growing, the area continues to offer new amenities for residents. Naperville Crossings at Route 59 and 59th Street features a mix of entertainment, restaurants, shops and businesses, including the AMC Showplace theater.

Residents who want to head north can enjoy Naperville's dynamic downtown with the Riverwalk, Centennial Beach aquatic facility, skate park and in-line skating rink, fine dining and shopping, which has made the city a destination for people from all around.
