Grave site flags to honor police, firefighters in Des Plaines on 9/11

On Sept. 11, Sons of American Legion Squadron 36 plans to place American flags at the grave sites of police and firefighters interred at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.

Those who have a family member who spent time in a police or fire department and would like their service recognized can contact the Legion to provide the person's name and gravesite location.

Those who would like a flag to place at another cemetery can stop by the Legion post on Oakwood Avenue just east of Lee Street.

Several dozen volunteers placed more than 4,000 flags at the grave sites of veterans at All Saints on Memorial Day weekend.
