Schaumburg signs 3-year contract with public works union

Schaumburg trustees have approved a new three-year union contract with the village's Engineering and Public Works Department employees retroactive to May 1.

The contract with International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 pays the department's union workers a 2.25 percent raise on both May 1, 2016 and May 1, 2017, and a 2 percent raise on May 1, 2018.

The total financial impact to the village over the three years is about $835,000 in comparison to the continuation of the previous wage rates.

The contract replaces a cash payout of unused sick leave at retirement to a contribution to an employee's health reimbursement account. Such a contribution is nontaxable to the employee while not creating additional cost for the village.
