Wisconsin man charged in March fatal I-90 limo crash

A Wisconsin man who crashed a limo along I-90 in March - killing one and injuring five - was charged Wednesday on allegations he was too young to drive a commercial vehicle, state police said.

Aaron T. Nash, of the 600 block of West O'Neil Road, Janesville, faces a punishment ranging from probation to three years in prison if convicted of violating a motor carrier safety law by a driver, which is a felony, authorities said.

Under federal law, a commercial limousine driver must be at least 21. Nash will turn 21 in December, according to court records.

Nash surrendered to Illinois State Police Wednesday and posted $1,500 bond.

According to state police, Nash was driving a white, 1998 Lincoln limousine about 7 a.m. on March 25 on the eastbound Jane Addams Tollway near Route 25 when the limo left its lane, hit a wall in a construction area and flipped on its roof.

Authorities at the time said Nash told them his vision was obstructed by the sun.

The impact killed Teri Schmidt, 53, of Monoma, Wisconsin, and injured five other passengers, according to state police. The surviving passengers, all from Wisconsin, were four men, ages 53 to 64, and a 61-year-old woman, police said.

Nash also was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, authorities said. He is next due in Kane County court on July 27.
