5 apprehended after Rolling Meadows woman robbed in her home

Five people were taken into custody Tuesday after a group of people forced entry into the home of an elderly Rolling Meadows woman, took items, knocked her to the ground and attempted to flee toward Schaumburg, Rolling Meadows Police Chief John Nowacki said.

Rolling Meadows police got a call about 9:30 a.m. that a group had forced entry into the woman's home on the 2400 block of Cardinal Drive and knocked her to the ground before fleeing the scene.

Police began following a vehicle that appeared to contain individuals matching a description. When police tried to stop the group of three males and two females, the vehicle fled traveling southbound on Route 53, Nowacki said.

When the vehicle attempted to exit Route 53 onto Route 72, the driver lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into a tree near Shaw's Crab House, according to police. The people in the car attempted to flee on foot, but were soon apprehended by Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg and Streamwood police.

Nowacki said the investigation is ongoing, and charges are expected to be filed in the coming days.
