Algonquin man sentenced to jail for October DUI

An Algonquin man severely injured last year in a crash authorities say occurred because he was driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated DUI and possession of a controlled substance, court records show.

Skylar Kendrick, 27, was sentenced to six months in jail and 30 months' probation in exchange for his guilty plea. He also was ordered to pay $2,639 in fines.

Prosecutors said Kendrick had drugs and alcohol in his system when he struck a car while driving west on Higgins Road in Hoffman Estates on Oct. 25.

Kendrick, who was alone in the car, lost control and flipped the vehicle, which wound up upside-down on some railroad tracks, prosecutors said.

Kendrick, who had two previous DUI convictions, was ejected from the car and suffered 21 broken bones, prosecutors said.
