76-year-old woman dies in 3-vehicle crash in Naperville

A 76-year-old Aurora woman was killed Sunday in a three-vehicle crash at a busy intersection in Naperville, police said Tuesday.

Frances Courtney was a passenger in a silver 2004 Infiniti J35 headed east on North Aurora Road near Route 59 just before 5 p.m. The driver turned left from an inside through lane, but his car was struck by another vehicle headed west, according to a Naperville Police Department news release.

Both eastbound and westbound traffic on North Aurora Road had a green light as the second car proceeded through the intersection, police said.

The impact caused the Infiniti to strike a third vehicle that was stopped at the red light on southbound Route 59.

Frances Courtney was treated at the scene for serious injuries and transported to Edward Hospital, where she died later Sunday night.

The driver, 76-year-old James E. Courtney of Aurora, was cited for disobeying a traffic control device, improper turn, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation, and police ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them at (630) 305-5379.
