Memphis Grizzlies claim guard Tony Wroten off waivers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - The Memphis Grizzlies have claimed guard Tony Wroten off waivers.

The move was announced Monday.

Wroten, 23, averaged 8.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 18 minutes in eight games with the Philadelphia 76ers this past season before getting waived on Dec. 24. He signed with the New York Knicks on March 16 but didn't appear in any games as he recovered from an injury.

The Knicks waived him Wednesday.

Wroten, who is 6-foot-6, has career averages of 11.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3 assists and 21.2 minutes in 145 games over four seasons. He spent his rookie year in Memphis after the Grizzlies selected him out of Washington with the 25th overall pick in the 2012 draft.
