Tributes to Orlando victims kick off Pride Parade

Jason Mendez-McAllister was front and center yesterday honoring the life of longtime friend Edward "Eddie" Sotomayor, Jr. in a moving tribute to open Chicago's 47th annual Pride Parade. Sotomayor, 34, known to his friends and fans as "Top Hat Eddie," was one of 49 people killed June 12 in a terror attack at Pulse nightclub in Orlando. Many parade floats featured themes celebrating the anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision legalizing same-sex marriage, but almost all made reference to the hashtag #WeAreOrlando or #StandWithOrlando. Spring Grove-area woman found dead after Sunday morning crash

The McHenry County Coroner's office is investigating the death of a woman after a single-vehicle crash early yesterday morning along Route 12 east of Sunset Road in Spring Grove. The body of Tanya McDonough, 33, of unincorporated Spring Grove, was found by a passer-by about 6 a.m., authorities said. Full story.

Elgin dumpster fire damages apartment buildings, six cars

Elgin fire investigators are working to determine what sparked a fire inside a wooden dumpster enclosure at a city apartment complex Friday evening that damaged six cars parked nearby as well as two adjacent buildings. Firefighters responding to the Blackhawk Apartments found the enclosure and four plastic dumpsters inside on fire, along with two vehicles parked on either side of the structure. Full story.

Sale, Sox bounce back to beat Blue Jays

The White Sox clubhouse was understandably numb following Saturday's 10-8 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays after becoming the first team in major-league history to lose a game when hitting at least 6 more home runs than their opponent. But there was some optimism as well, given Chris Sale was starting against the Jays on the next day. Cubs lose series finale 6-1 to Marlins

Jose Fernandez delivered another gem at Marlins Park, allowing one run in seven innings and striking out 13 Sunday to help Miami beat the faltering Cubs, 6-1. The Marlins won three of four from the injury-depleted Cubs, who went 1-6 for the week but still have baseball's best record. Full story.
