Cougars drop third straight

CLINTON, Iowa - For the seventh time this season, the Kane County Cougars (0-3) were shut out as the playoff-bound Clinton LumberKings (3-0) used early run support and lights-out starting pitching to win 3-0.

The Cougars had two runners in scoring position with 1 out in the ninth, but Trevor Mitsui struck out and Austin Byler flied to left field to subdue the only run-scoring threat for the Cougars on the evening.

Overshadowed by a memorable seven innings of 4-hit baseball, the Cougars fell victim to another quality outing for Pablo Lopez (3-0). Junior Garcia (3-5) also posted a quality start for the Cougars with only 3 runs allowed in nearly 7 innings.
