1 dead, 1 injured after boats crash on Illinois' Rock River

OREGON, Ill. (AP) - Winnebago County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Hintz says one person is dead and another injured after two boats collided on the Rock River in northern Illinois.

Hintz told WREX-TV in Rockford (http://bit.ly/298ZbPJ ) that the woman died after the crash about 8:40 p.m. Friday on the river near Oregon. Her name was not released. Oregon is about 20 miles southwest of Rockford.

Authorities say the crash involved a fishing boat and pontoon boat that collided. Information about the injured person's identity and condition was not available.

The cause is not known but the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is investigating.
