Man in car shot early Saturday near Route 53 and I-90 near Schaumburg

An unidentified man was shot early Saturday morning near the junction of Route 53 and I-90 near Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg.

The shooting occurred about 2:30 a.m. and the victim sustained at least one gunshot wound that was not considered life threatening, State Police Sgt. Ryan Schramka at the agency's District 2 office in Elgin said. He did not know what kind of gunshot injuries the man suffered. He added that the victim was in a car when he was shot.

State police were notified of the shooting when the victim arrived at the emergency room at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Schramka said.

However, Schramka said investigators weren't sure which direction the victim's vehicle was traveling at the time of the shooting or if the victim was driving when he was shot.

"His story wasn't making sense," Schramka said.

Schramka was also unsure if the victim had suffered more than one gunshot wound, or if multiple shots were fired. There was no description available of the shooter or of any vehicle that might have been involved in the shooting.

Media reports indicated police shut down parts of the highway to investigate the shooting from 3:25 a.m. to nearly 5 a.m.
