ATM skimming device found at Des Plaines convenience store

Des Plaines police report that an alert customer noticed a device to steal ATM card information had been attached to a cash machine at the 7-Eleven, 1950 E. Touhy Ave.

The customer inserted his debit card into the ATM around 6 p.m. June 2 and noticed the card fit too tightly, police said in a report. He pulled the card out and he shook the green plastic piece at the card slot. The piece came off and there was a computer chip underneath the slot.

An officer located another part of the skimmer placed over the slot where money is dispensed. The item was a gray plastic piece with a computer chip on the other side and what appeared to be a camera, slanted diagonally to watch for pin numbers, police said.
