Summer concert series opens Tuesday at The Holmstad

The Holmstad, 700 W. Fabyan Parkway in Batavia, is hosting a series of outdoor evening musical performances as part of its new Summer Concert Series, beginning Tuesday, June 28.

The Summer Concert Series is free, open to the public and includes performances by some of Chicago's favorite talent.

Fox Valley Concert Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 28. The band is comprised of 80 volunteer musicians under the baton of conductor Colin Holman. The band has been a favorite among Fox River Valley music aficionados since it was founded in 1983. The band's musical fare includes marches, show tunes and some light classical works.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, the Glenn Miller Orchestra will faithfully recreate the distinctive sound developed by Glenn Miller. They continue to play many of the original Miller arrangements from both the civilian and military band libraries. The orchestra also plays modern selections arranged and performed in the Miller style and sound. As it was in the 1940s, "Moonlight Serenade" is still the signature tune of the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Ann Stewart and the Banjo Buddies Dixieland Band will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18. This high-energy Dixieland band is led by "Diva of Dixieland" Ann Stewart. The group plays everything from Dixieland jazz to swing, blues, big band tunes, and novelty tunes from the 1920s through the 1950s.
