Young voters should consider Kirk

I am a recent graduate of the Libertyville High School Class of 2016. I will also be a first-time voter in the national elections this November, and I am glad to be voting for Mark Kirk as one of our senators representing Illinois.

As an 18-year-old, I am all too aware of the unfortunate trend among many of my peers who are disenchanted with the sometimes frustrating and overwhelming politics of our nation. Yet I cannot stress enough the authenticity Mark Kirk promises in representing our communities and offering hope for my generation.

Mark Kirk has shown what a true senator should be - pragmatic, principled, and a leader independent of outside influences. As a social moderate and fiscal conservative, he truly attempts to represent the diverse array of values that make our state so unique.

And, as a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Navy Reserve, Sen. Kirk recognizes the importance of remaining vigilant and decisive when it comes to protecting and defending not only our state, but also our nation, and ensuring that all of our veterans receive the care and respect they deserve.

I encourage everyone, especially my young colleagues, neighbors and fellow members of this wonderful community, to step up and vote in this upcoming election, regardless of who becomes our next president, because, I assure you, Illinois will want Mark Kirk in the Senate come 2017. And, it is also pretty nice to be able to vote for a leader who is not on trial or under investigation, contrary to the realities of many politicians these days.
